Boxing and fit-boxing sound alike and are advertised almost identically, but they are two different kinds of training, with different goals and different audiences. If you are looking for boxing or fit-boxing in Barcelona and are not sure which suits you, here is the difference, without the hype.
Boxing: technique first
Boxing is a combat sport. In a boxing class you train the real technique: guard, footwork, punching, defence, distance and reading your opponent. You work on the bag, on pads and, once your level allows, with gloves against a partner in controlled work.
What you take away: fine coordination, reflexes, real power and, above all, a skill. This is the route if the technical craft interests you and you enjoy the progression of learning something difficult.
Fit-boxing: conditioning with boxing movements
Fit-boxing takes boxing’s movements and uses them as a conditioning tool. There is no contact, no opponent, and the technique is simplified so you can work at high intensity for the whole session.
What you take away: high calorie burn, demanding cardiovascular work, core, and a session that flies by. This is the route if what you want is to get fit and clear your head, without the technical learning curve.
The differences, one by one
- Goal. Boxing wants you to know how to box. Fit-boxing wants you to train hard.
- Contact. Boxing may include partner work; fit-boxing never does.
- Technique. Boxing corrects the detail. Fit-boxing prioritises rhythm and intensity.
- Intensity. Fit-boxing holds a high heart rate for most of the class. Boxing alternates technical work with intense sets.
- Learning curve. In fit-boxing you perform from day one. In boxing there is a phase of learning to move.
- Kit. Wraps and gloves are enough for both; in fit-boxing sometimes not even that.
Which one suits you
Boxing suits you if…
- Learning a skill and seeing technical progress motivates you.
- You want to improve coordination, reflexes and reaction time.
- The sport itself interests you, not just the physical effect.
Fit-boxing suits you if…
- You want to burn, sweat and leave with a clear head.
- You want an intense session without learning complex technique.
- Machine cardio bores you and you need the hour to go fast.
And the honest answer: plenty of people do both. Fit-boxing keeps the engine going and boxing gives you the technique. Alternating them works better than choosing.
Where to train boxing and fit-boxing in Barcelona
At KOR, boxing is the speciality of Les Corts, at Carrer de Maria Barrientos 16, 08028 Barcelona. It is our largest club, over 1,000 m², and the only one of the four with a boxing programme.
There you have three formats: Boxing (the coach-led technical class), Fit-Boxing (the conditioning format) and Open Boxeo (an open session to practise on your own with the club’s equipment). You can see the details on the boxing at Les Corts page.
The boxing membership is €75/month unlimited and covers all three formats. It is separate from the CrossFit and Hyrox memberships, designed for people who come only to box. If you want to combine it with the club’s other sessions, we sort that out when you join.
Frequently asked questions
Is fit-boxing good for losing weight?
It helps, and considerably: it is one of the sessions with the highest calorie burn per hour. But the medium-term result rests on nutrition and some strength work, not cardio alone.
Do I need gloves for the first class?
No. We lend you the kit to try it. If you keep going, most people buy their own wraps and gloves.
Do I have to fight anyone?
No. Fit-boxing has no contact at all, and in boxing partner work is always optional and controlled by the coach.
Can I start with no fitness base?
Yes. Both classes adapt: the pace, the sets and the rest change according to your level.
Can I combine it with CrossFit?
Yes, and it works very well: CrossFit brings strength and work capacity, and boxing brings coordination and a mental release.
Try it for free
If you are torn between the two, the quickest answer is to try them. Your first class is free at Les Corts, with no commitment and no previous experience needed.
